The Able Baker started as a web-based business in 2009 with an email to family and friends. We are located at 187 Maplewood Avenue in Maplewood.

Most orders need 2 weeks’ notice.
Please be aware that it is hard to respond to email when your hands are covered in dough. If you need to, you can email us. Please allow—at least—48 hours for us to reply.
For basic cakes, we can sometimes take an order with less notice. For custom fondant work, two weeks is the minimum.
That being said, if you’re in a bind and it’s the last minute, go ahead and call. Sometimes we can squeeze you in, but no promises.
We will publish holiday order cut-off dates on the Baker’s Special page.
Payment is due upon pick up. We accept all debit and credit, cash, and (yes) checks.
Deposits are often required for large orders.
The short answer is: maybe.
We do tiered cakes on request.
We do not do shaped cakes.
We do NOT bake in a nut-free kitchen. However, all the basic cake and frosting flavors and many of the cookies, including the hand-decorated sugar cookies, are nut-free. Recipes containing nuts are clearly noted in emails or on the website.
Please call if you have a concern about a particular ingredient. We do not bake anything with peanuts.
We have gluten-free items every day: Banana Bread, Scones, Cupcakes, & Cookies. Every day. While we are careful to avoid cross-contamination, the kitchen is NOT gluten-free.
Our banana bread is—always—gluten-free and dairy-free.
